The Charge Nurse is responsible for leading nursing staff during their shift, coordinating patient care, and ensuring that clinical standards are upheld. This position acts as a liaison between nurses, patients, and other healthcare professionals to ensure seamless communication and efficient workflows. The Charge Nurse also assists in managing patient flow, addressing staffing issues, and providing hands-on nursing care when needed.
Salary rate: $46.00 - $66.00 (Depending on Experience)

Required Skills:
Minimum Education and Experience:
- Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required; BSN preferred.
- Minimum of 2-3 years of clinical nursing experience in the relevant department.
- Prior experience in a leadership or supervisory role preferred.
- Current California Registered Nursing License.
- ACLS Certificate required
- BLS Certificate Certified
- Strong clinical knowledge and skills relevant to the specific department.
- Excellent leadership and organizational abilities to manage staff and prioritize care.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills to interact effectively with staff, patients, and families.
- Problem-solving and critical-thinking abilities to respond to urgent patient care needs.
- Ability to remain calm and composed in fast-paced or high-pressure situations.
- Proficiency in using electronic health record (EHR) systems and other healthcare software.
Leadership and Supervision:
- Supervise nursing staff during shifts, ensuring effective and efficient patient care.
- Assumes the responsibility for administrative and operational function of the PreOp in the absence of the department Director/Manager.
- Assist staff in providing nursing care to the PreOp patient in accordance with the organization’s policies, procedures and applicable law.
- Assign and oversee daily tasks, patient assignments, and staffing to meet the department's needs.
- Provide guidance and support to nursing staff and resolve any issues that arise during the shift.
- Act as a mentor for nursing staff, assisting with problem-solving and decision-making.
- Serves as a clinical resource for staff.
- Monitor and coordinate the care of all patients within the unit to ensure their safety and well-being.
- Coordinates nursing care requirements with other departments to ensure the continuity of patient care.
- Collaborate with physicians, nurse practitioners, and other healthcare providers to ensure optimal patient care.
- Consults with other departments as appropriate to provide for an interdisciplinary approach to the patient’s needs.
- Serve as an escalation point for complex or critical patient care issues.
- Ensure that nursing interventions are performed in a timely manner and that patient documentation is accurate.
- Ability to review plan of care as indicated by the patient’s response to treatment and evaluate overall plan daily for effectiveness.
- Coordinate patient admissions, discharges, and transfers to maintain smooth unit operations.
- Ensure proper staffing levels, including calling in additional staff when necessary to cover gaps.
- Coordinates daily staff assignments
- Ensure appropriate staffing level based on patient flow, surgery schedule and employee skill set.
- Ensure that all staff members have required rest/meal breaks.
- Assist in managing the overall flow of patients through the department, prioritizing care as needed.
- Handle shift handovers by facilitating accurate and detailed reporting between shifts.
- Ensure compliance with hospital policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
- Maintain infection control practices and other safety protocols.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives, such as clinical audits, to enhance patient care outcomes.
- Report any incidents or issues to the Nurse Manager or Supervisor, including safety concerns or equipment failures.
- Provide on-the-job training and orientation for new nurses and support staff.
- Encourage continuing education and skill development within the nursing team.
- Lead and participate in shift-based or unit-based education sessions and briefings.
- Offer constructive feedback and contribute to performance evaluations for staff members.
- Provide direct patient care when required, including administering medications, performing assessments, and implementing treatment plans.
- Assist with emergency or critical patient care situations as needed.
- Be available to assist the nursing staff in managing high-acuity patients or unexpected challenges.
